Writing for a purpose

If you are studying in a foreign language you will be required to do a large amount of writing, whatever your subject. Some people distinguish between "essays" and "reports", and you may also know some other names for written assignments. However, sometimes the same name is used for very different types of assignments, and different names are used for very similar types of assignment. -
When you write an assignment you may be expected to demonstrate that you
a. Are knowledgeable about the latest vocabulary or use of the language worked in class
b. Can develop an argument and reason for your opinions
c. Can express  yourself thinking in the foreign language and not by translating literally from your native language
d. Are providing enough description of things so that any person reading can get your thoughts right away ( Writing for oneself and others)
e. Can reflect on how you and other people feel and think.
These are the five Primary Purposes for writing. Although assignments require you to show tidiness, being neat is very important, also to hand your work in on time.

Most student writing is in response to a brief or a question, usually given by a teacher.
Thinking about this brief or question will help you decide the purpose of your writing.
In addition, a sentence or two about the specific purpose of the assignment is often
found in the introduction section, or in the first paragraph

ESSAYS

The purpose of an Essay is to demonstrate or develop the ability to construct a coherent
argument and employ critical thinking skills. -
Try all the ways to find the one that best helps you to write, one good piece of advice
is to make notes isolated about your idea, then write drafts , as many as you may need,
when you are satisfied write it down neatly and with a clear handwriting.

Don't forget to have your big helper at hand: your dictionary!!!!
Good Luck!
